Bio and Research Interests:

Climate dynamics, the general circulation of the atmosphere. Yang Zhang is a Professor in the School of Atmospheric Sciences at Nanjing University, where she also serves as Head of the Department of Meteorology. She earned her Ph.D. in Atmospheric Dynamics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 2009 and joined the faculty of Nanjing University that same year. Her research focuses on the fundamental dynamics of atmospheric circulations, including eddy–mean flow interactions in various climate variabilities and regional weather extremes, mechanisms of extratropical air–sea interactions, and the role of planetary waves in connecting polar and midlatitude climates.

She is a member of the International Commission on Dynamical Meteorology (ICDM), a constituent commission of the International Association of Meteorology and Atmospheric Sciences (IAMAS), and also serves on the Scientific Steering Group for APARC (Atmospheric Processes And their Role in Climate), a core project of the World Climate Research Programme (WCRP). She currently holds editorial roles as an Associate Editor for the Journal of the Atmospheric Sciences and the Journal of Climate, and as a Co-Editor for the EGU journal Weather and Climate Dynamics.</font>
